2005

  • Meetings:
    • February “Friendship Advocacy: Building a Collaborative Partnership with you Child’s Teacher” with Steve Hackney
    • May “Being Positive With Yourself and Your Child” with Kathy Bolte, Advanced EFT Practitioner
  • Saturday workshops:
    • February “Seeding Your Brain: Comprehension Strategies That Work!” with Andy Stetkevich, 2 nd in Specific Skills Series
    • March “Fling into Spring with Memory Strategies That Stick!” with Regina G. Richards, last in Specific Skills Series
    • May “Dimensions of Dyslexia Conference” sponsored with the Southern CA Consortium in Long Beach
    • September “Green Light Teaching Strategies” with Rich Allen, 2 nd in Impact Learning Series
  • Provided multiple scholarships for all workshops
  • September distributed Teacher Appreciation Packets to new teachers in two districts
  • Expanded web site and began project to reconfigure and revise website
  • Began e-new program: sending news about research and events by email
  • October: Obtained 12 Proclamations from local mayors and counties to honor National Dyslexia Awareness Month
  • November: At the International IDA Conference in Denver, received the Branch Council Achievement Award in recognition of the Proclamations we obtained for Dyslexia Awareness Month


2004

  • Meetings: January “Walk in the Shoes of LD”; May “Every Child Reading”; September “Walk in the Shoes of LD”;
  • Full day workshops: March “The Brain & Reading”; July “Impact Learning”; December “Specific Skills Series – Decoding”
  • Provided multiple scholarships for all workshops
  • September distributed Teacher Appreciation Packets to new teachers in two districts
  • Expanded web site
  • Riverside Street Fair, weekly for 2 months in summer
  • Scholarships for guitar lessons at Fender Museum for students
  • Hired Management Company


2003

  • General meetings: May LD & Self-Esteem & September Family Activity Night
  • Workshop in March: Memory & Learning -Dr. Doug Harrington
  • Participated in planning/organizing IDA 54th Annual International Conference in San Diego
  • Provided scholarships for workshop & conference
  • Updated/expanded branch web site
  • Donated books/videos to Moreno Valley Library
  • Distributed Teacher Appreciation Packets


2002

  • General meetings in January, May & November on topics of multi sensory strategies & self-esteem & an Awareness Fair
  • Workshops with Richard Lavoie in March "Communication is the Key" and with Dr. Daniel Amen in October: "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life"
  • Begin working with Southern California Consortium in planning the 54th Annual Conference of IDA "Our Mission to Literacy"
  • Continue with Newsletters, website and general PR

  • Andrea Newall & the Full Fathom Five present concert of Chamber Music for Annual Meeting
  • Support groups and literacy programs continue to grow
  • 7 literacy scholarships presented
  • Outreach assistance for literacy programs grows
  • 10th Annual Dimensions of Dyslexia Conference in Long Beach
  • Library donation project completed for Riverside City and County Libraries

  • Jan Hackleman, RN, MFCC speaks at Annual Dinner Meeting
  • Support groups and literacy programs continue and grow
  • Host Consortium's Dimension of Dyslexia, in Lake Arrowhead
  • Nine mayors issue proclamations of Dyslexia Awareness for conference week
  • Literacy scholarships
  • Program begun to donate books and videotapes to the Riverside City and County Public Library

  • Charles Hyman, MD and Jan Hackleman, RN, MFCC speak at Annual Meeting
  • First students graduate from Children's Scottish Rite classes
  • Classes expand s Assistance to classes in Moreno Valley and Tehachapi
  • Parent and adult support groups continue
  • May Golf Tournament and Sports Auction
  • The Dovid Richards Memorial Scholarship Fund is begun
  • With Southern California Consortium, co-host the 45th International Orton Dyslexia Society Conference at Los Angeles Biltmore Hotel


1993

  • Beth Ballinger, OD speaks at January Annual Meeting
  • Over 100 certificates of appreciation presented to area teachers
  • Scottish Rite Literacy Programs initiated for children, teenagers, and adults
  • First adult group completes literacy program
  • February Golf Tournament in rain, with sports auction
  • 8th Annual Dimensions of Dyslexia Conference in Costa Mesa .

  • Joan Esposito speaks at January Annual Meeting
  • Meetings in March and May filled to capacity s Dinner meeting and November

  • Language Skills seminars expanded
  • Mayor Sonny Bono names Oct. 16-22 "Dyslexia Awareness Week" and is joined by many other mayors
  • 3rd Annual Dimensions of Dyslexia Conference
  • Other conferences in Palm Springs and San Bernardino


1987

  • 2 nd Annual Dimensions of Dyslexia Conference at Orange Coast College
  • Language Skills seminars begin in Redlands and Coachella Valley under Calif. Gas Co. grant

  • First Consortium conference, Dimensions of Dyslexia, at Lake Arrowhead

  • Fall conference at Lake Arrowhead
  • Begin plans for So. California Consortium with other Orton Branches
